STEM Career Opportunities Presented by Dr. Robert Green, Mississippi State University, Bagley College of Engineering, and Dudley Moore, The University of Alabama, Holmes Alumnus, in Fine Arts Auditorium (11 a.m.)
Robert A Green: Dr. Green is the Assistant Dean of the James Worth Bagley College of Engineering at Mississippi State University. He is responsible for the college’s scholarship program, inter-college agreements, and academic affairs. He holds a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Mississippi State. He also has an M.A. in National Security and Strategic Studies from the US Naval War College. Robert’s Ph.D. is in Public Policy and Administration, also from Mississippi State. The topic of his dissertation was Organization Change at the Macro Level of Professions. Dr. Green is a registered Professional Engineer and fellow and past president of the National Society of Professional Engineers.
Prior to his current position, Dr. Green worked as a Research Engineer with the Diagnostic Instrumentation and Analysis Laboratory (DIAL), which became the Institute for Clean Energy Technology, a research department in the Bagley College of Engineering. His areas of expertise while at DIAL were gas analysis, stack sampling and other EPA test methods, infrared pyrometry, the design of intrusive probes for measuring specific parameters in harsh, high temperature, particle-laden environments, and the design of experiments. When he left DIAL for his current job, he was serving as the Chief Test Engineer and Manager of the Field Operations Team.
Dr. Green also serves as a Navy Reserve Officer holding the rank of Captain (O-6, or Colonel for those not familiar with Navy ranks). He is an Engineering Duty Officer with expertise in the areas of design and acquisition of ships and ships’ systems and combat systems. Currently he is serving as a department head in the NAVSEA Systems Engineering Unit where he coordinates reserve support to the Missile Defense Agency. He has served as the Gulf Region Commanding Officer for SurgeMain with six subordinate units. Prior assignments included the NAVSEA Reserve Program Manager for the Coalition Warrior Interoperability Demonstration (CWID), the Norfolk Naval Ship Yard, Philadelphia Naval Ship Yard, Naval Sea Systems Command, and as Commanding Officer of Naval Weapons Station Yorktown Detachment 609, the Amphibious Ready Group Intermediate Maintenance Activity Detachment 0948, USS Emory S Land (AS-39) Detachment 407, NAVSEA St. Louis, MO, and NAVSEA Houston, TX. He also been a facilitator for Reserve Officer Leadership Training, provided training on ethics, and was an international science and engineering fair judge for the Office of Naval Research. His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4 awards), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and the Navy Unit Commendation Medal.
In addition to these duties, Dr. Green is a Past President of both the National Society of Professional Engineers and the Mississippi Engineering Society. He is an elder within the Presbyterian Church PC(USA) and is active in volunteer and professional organizations including co-chair of the Greater Starkville Development Partnership Military Affairs Committee.
In his spare time, Dr. Green likes to read, write, and spend time with his family, especially his granddaughter.
Dudley Moore: Dudley Moore is a graduate of Holmes Community College where he was a member of Holmes Plus, Phi Theta Kappa, and the Holmes Bulldogs Football Team. As a student at Holmes, he also received the HEADWAE Award. After leaving Holmes, he enrolled in the Mechanical Engineering Program at the University of Mississippi (UM).
As an engineering student at UM, Moore excelled academically and professionally. He mentored countless students with a STEM Focus and was inducted into the Golden Key Honor Society, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges, and the Ronald E. McNair Program. Additionally, he was a research assistant at the National Center for Physical Acoustics with the Aero-Acoustics Group. His highest accomplishment was completing a project that studied the acoustic behavior between a spark source and an airfoil. At the conclusion of his academic career at the UM, Moore graduated with highest honors, receiving the Marcus E. Taylor Memorial Medal.
Moore is currently a Doctoral Candidate at The University of Alabama in Mechanical Engineering, and his research focus is Thermal Fluids and Combustion. He has completed two internships with Caterpillar Companies: CAT and Solar Turbines. Moore continues to be heavily involved with mentoring students in inner city schools, seeking to assist students with exceeding both academically and professionally.
